The solar year is divided into eight equal sections
These are the quarter and cross-quarter earth holidays. The solstices and equinoxes make up the quarter days. The solstices occur when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator, making the longest night at winter solstice and the longest day at summer solstice. The equinoxes mark the mid-points between the solstices, occurring when the sun crosses the plane of the celestial equator, making day and night of equal length (equi-nox or equal night). The mid points between the quarter days are referred to as cross-quarter: Imbolc/Candlemas, May Eve/Beltane, Lammas and All Hallowe’en/Samhain.
