Dr.
Christiane Northrup Healing Wisdom for Women, December 2002
Before
signing off this month, I'd like to introduce you to what I consider one of the
finest ways to bring lunar energy into your life that I've found yet. It's
called the Lunaria Day Journal, and it's a small weekly planner, sketchbook, and
journal for either men or women that makes it really easy to track the phases of
the moon along with your daily activities.
The
journal was created by fine artists Vicki McDonald Leppek and Gail Sand, both of
Colorado. The images used are evocative and stunning. All are in the public
domain and many come from rare books - they're a visual feast in themselves.
This journal (and wall calendar) are the perfect way to begin your new year and
strengthen your intuitive wisdom in the process.
... What a great stocking stuffer or gift idea!

Whether
or not you have already purchased your calendar for this year, you should take a
look at this enchanting astrological and astronomical lunar calendar. Using the
phases of the moon has always been nature's way of keeping track of the cycles
of time, as our inner spirits and outer bodies will agree, whether or not our
westernized intellects do. Divided into thirteen moons rather than the twelve
months, this calendar makes it easier to reconnect to the seasons of the earth
and sky. Every page graphically marks the phases of the moon and includes
seasonal poetry, folklore and artwork along with the necessities of a
traditional calendar. Fun, simple and easy to use, this calendar is also printed
on recycled paper using vegetable inks. Beautiful!

Press created two marvelous companions that make perfect gifts! Start each month
with a new moon, and stay in tune with the world’s first calendar, the moon.
The 2003 Lunaria Lunar Almanac ($12.95) is packed with details of the moon
phase, times of sunset or sunrise (on Mountain Standard Time), eclipses,
planetary aspects and more! As a companion piece, the Lunaria Day Journal
($16.95) includes all this information plus room for appointment notes and daily
journaling.

These two items - the Almanac wall calendar and the handy spiral-bound Day
Journal - are both attractive, while sharing a different approach to the common
12-month format of most yearly calendars. The creators have used
"moons" rather than "months", and each calendar page states
which moon and date it encompasses; such as "Second Moon - February 1 thru
March 1." As 2003 starts off with January 1 being a new moon,
everything seems pretty regular until the Sixth Moon, where the moons no longer
coincide with the months. There are in total thirteen moons in this year-long
calendar, starting January 1, and ending on January 20 2004.
Both the Almanac and the Day Journal contain lots of black
and white illustrations, poetry and lore gleaned, for the most part, from old
sources. Moonly themes include love, unicorns, the moon (of course), cats and
banshees. The Almanac wall calendar has room to write down appointments, while
still leaving room for the moon stats and phase for each day. As the times given
are in Mountain Standard/Daylight time, there is - at the back of the calendar -
information on how to adjust to your local time, as well as more keys to using
the calendar.
The Day Journal is sturdy and attractive, a handy size that will easily pop in a
handbag or backpack, and has plenty of room to write down appointments, make
notes, and even sketch pictures!
I
look forward to using the calendar and the day journal together, in order to
explore how aligning my life to the moon cycles will affect my outlook.

My favorite this year wasn't a wall calendar at all, but a smaller daytimer
sort of affair by Friday Press. You may be familiar with their still excellent
hanging wall Moon Calendar, but this year Friday Press is also offering a
portable journal. 8.5 x 5.5" it slips easily into a purse or briefcase.
Lunaria is a calendar arranged as were the first calendars, by the cycles of the
moon. Both the journal version and its larger cousin have a full section in the
back explaining its layout and uses, and some of the mythology and lore
associated with the days of the week, and the solar holidays that are common to
those of the Earth-centered spiritual paths.
Her calendars also supply a great deal of detail on Luna and
her phases, including both general science data such as why the moon is full or
new, and some of the psychological aspects of each phase.
Lunaria begins with the First Moon which is December 14 -
January 12 (2002) and completes the cycle with the 13th Moon which is December 4 -
January 2, 2003. The reason I have chosen her Lunaria Day Journal 2002 and
weekly planner as my favorite, had largely to do with layout of each week, the
charming introductory comments and the general design. But the overwhelming
feature was that each week is laid out on the left with plenty of blank space on
the right page for notes, journal entries and sketches. I never seem to have
enough room in a date book for notes, and they bristle with post-its and tucked
pieces of paper. This answers all my needs.

Lunar Education February 14, 2008
What a great way to learn about & study the moon and its effect on our
lives. This is the 4th year I am using this calendar and it is really part of my
daily life. I've also used the pocket calendar (last year I had both) which was
great but it took up too much room in my purse. The wall calendar hangs in my
kitchen and I check it regularly to see which constellation the moon currently
passing through. It has helped me pay attention to my responses regarding the
positon of the moon and thereby has increased my sensitivity to effects of the
varying positions. I've come to realize more & more how connected we are to
everything that happens in the universe and this in one of my favorite tools to
feel that connectedness!
More than a simple calendar February 8, 2008
I'm learning so much more from this lunar almanac than I ever expected. It
helped me find the perfect day for my wedding!
A True Lunar Calendar October 29, 2007
Have purchased this calendar for several years now. It is not your typical
calendar. The new moon is the beginning of the "month." It certainly
helps in aligning with the rhythms of time according to the moon. Wouldn't miss
it.
